Contributor consent and data licence
These are the terms you accept in the project app before you contribute to a Guwit language project such as the Gungbe Voice & Text Project. The short version shown in the app says the same thing; this page gives the detail.
Version 1 · effective 15 October 2026
1. Who we are
The project is run by Guwit Technology Solutions Ltd, a private company limited by shares registered in Nigeria (RC 9040112), 8 Obiwale Street, Mowo, Badagry, Lagos State, Nigeria (“Guwit”, “we”). Contact: info@guwit.com, +234 704 164 9942.
2. What you contribute
“Contributions” means everything you submit through the project app: translations, corrections, reviews, voice recordings, recording checks and problem reports.
3. Age and free choice
You confirm that you are 18 years of age or older and that you take part voluntarily. You can stop at any time without giving a reason.
4. The licence you give Guwit
You give Guwit a permanent, worldwide, irrevocable, royalty-free right to use, copy, edit, combine, publish, license and sell your contributions, alone or as part of datasets and products, including to companies and organisations that build speech and language technology. Guwit may pass these rights on to its customers. You keep the right to speak and use your own language as you wish; this licence covers only the contributions you submit.
5. Payment
Payment, if any, is governed by a separate agreement between you and Guwit made before you start. Where you are paid, it is calculated from approved work recorded in the app. Without such an agreement, your participation is voluntary and unpaid.
6. Your voice and personal data
- Your voice may be recognisable. Recordings are therefore personal data and we treat them with care.
- Datasets we deliver never contain your name, phone number or Telegram username. Each speaker appears only under an anonymous code (for example S014) with gender, age range and the region where they grew up speaking the language.
- We keep your Telegram ID, name and contact details only to run the project, approve your account, calculate payment and contact you.
- You must not type or record personal information about yourself or anyone else, such as real names, phone numbers, addresses or account numbers.
7. Quality checks
Other contributors and Guwit administrators review your work. Recordings are listened to by a contributor and, before they are stored permanently, by an administrator. Work may be corrected, rejected or deleted.
8. Stopping and deletion
You may stop at any time. You may ask us to delete your recordings and translations by writing to info@guwit.com or by following the steps on our data deletion page. We will remove them from our project database and from all future versions of our datasets within 30 days. Copies already delivered to customers before your request cannot be recalled.
9. Your rights
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 — and, where it applies, the data protection law of the Republic of Benin — you can ask to see the personal data we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, object to its use, or receive a copy. You can also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC). Details are in our privacy policy.
10. Where data is kept
The project app runs on Cloudflare and uses Telegram; approved recordings are stored in a private Telegram channel controlled by Guwit, and backups are kept by Guwit. These providers may store data outside Nigeria. We use them because they are secure and reliable, and we limit access to Guwit administrators.
11. Changes
If we change these terms, we will give the new version a new number and ask you to accept it in the app before you continue. Contributions made under an earlier version stay under that version.
