Privacy policy
Last updated: 16 October 2026
This policy explains what personal information Guwit Technology Solutions Ltd collects through guwit.com, our published applications, including Learn Gungbe and Learn Fongbe, our language data projects, and the customer service bots we run for organisations; why we collect it; and what rights you have over it.
1. Who we are
The data controller is Guwit Technology Solutions Ltd, a private company registered in Nigeria under company registration number RC 9040112, of 8 Obiwale Street, Mowo, Badagry, Lagos State. In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” mean that company. You can reach us at info@guwit.com.
2. Information we collect on this website
- What you type into our contact form: your name, email address, phone number if you give one, the service you selected and your message.
- Standard server and delivery logs, including IP address and browser type, kept by our hosting provider for security and reliability.
This site does not use advertising or analytics cookies, and does not track you across other websites.
3. Learn Gungbe and Learn Fongbe
Our language-learning apps work without an account. Your lessons, progress, settings and profile photo are kept on your phone. The apps use the following services, each of which handles some information as described below.
Optional account and progress backup
If you choose to create an account, we use Firebase Authentication (Google) to sign you in with your email address and password, or with your Google account. We then store your learning progress (lessons completed, points, streaks and settings) in Cloud Firestore (Google) so it can be restored on another phone. Your profile photo is never uploaded.
You can delete your account at any time in the app under Settings → Delete account. This removes your sign-in and the progress stored with it.
Usage statistics
The apps use Google Analytics for Firebase to count how features are used, for example lessons started and finished, and which screens are opened. This uses an app-instance identifier and basic device information. It does not include your name or email address. We use it only to improve the apps.
Advertising
The free versions show ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob may use your device's advertising ID, IP address and information about the ads you see to show and measure ads, and, where you allow it, to personalise them. Where the law requires it (for example in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom), the app asks for your consent first, and you can change your choice in the app's settings. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's settings. Premium users do not see ads.
Purchases
Premium subscriptions and purchases are paid through Google Play. We never see or store your card details. We use RevenueCat to check which purchases are active on your account. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user identifier and your purchase records from Google Play.
Video lessons
Videos in the apps are played with YouTube's embedded player. When you play a video, YouTube (Google) may set cookies and collect information about your device and viewing, as described in the Google Privacy Policy, and may show ads. Views are counted on our YouTube channel. Videos only load when you open them.
Microphone
Speaking exercises ask for permission to use your microphone. Your voice is compared with the native recording on your phone, and is not uploaded or stored by us.
Reminders
If you turn on daily reminders, the app schedules them on your phone. No information is sent to us.
Our voice recorders
Native speakers who record lessons for us through our Telegram bot share their Telegram user ID, first name, and the voice recordings they submit. These recordings are reviewed and published as lesson audio in the apps, identified only by a speaker code, not by name. Recorders can ask us at any time to stop using their recordings in future versions.
4. Language data projects (Gungbe Voice & Text Project)
Contributors to our language data projects translate, review and record sentences through our project app, which opens inside Telegram. Taking part is for adults (18+) who have accepted our contributor terms.
- What we collect: Telegram user ID, name and username; gender, age range and the region where you grew up speaking the language; your translations, reviews and voice recordings; the amount and dates of your work; and the version and date of the terms you accepted.
- Why: to run the project, check quality, calculate payment where agreed, and build language datasets. The legal basis is your consent and the contributor terms.
- Datasets: with your consent, your contributions are licensed to organisations that build speech and language technology. Datasets never contain your name, phone number or username; each speaker appears only under an anonymous code with gender, age range and region. Your voice itself may still be recognisable.
- Storage: the project app runs on Cloudflare. Recordings waiting for approval are kept in our project database; approved recordings are stored in a private Telegram channel controlled by us; backups are kept by us.
5. Customer service bots we run for organisations
We build and operate customer service bots and phone lines (“Guwit Care”) on Telegram, WhatsApp and the telephone for client organisations. If you write to one of these bots or call one of these phone lines:
- What is collected: your Telegram ID, WhatsApp number or the phone number you call from, the name on your profile, your chosen language, the messages and voice notes you send, the menu choices you make on the phone keypad, any voice message you leave, the replies you receive, and the ratings you give.
- Why: to answer you, pass your question to a person when needed, and give the organisation anonymous usage reports (for example how many questions were asked and which answers were rated helpful).
- Who sees it: the organisation's agents, or ours if we answer on its behalf, and our administrators.
- How long: conversations are deleted automatically after twelve months, unless the organisation is required by law to keep them longer.
- We do not use these conversations to train language technology unless you have been told so and have agreed.
For these bots the client organisation is usually the data controller and we act as its data processor (see section 8).
6. Why we use it
- To reply to your enquiry and prepare a quotation.
- To deliver and support work you have engaged us for.
- To provide our apps, back up your progress and process purchases.
- To understand how our apps are used and improve them.
- To show ads in the free versions of our apps, as described in section 3.
- To run our language data projects and create the datasets described in section 4.
- To operate customer service bots for client organisations, as described in section 5.
- To meet our accounting, tax and legal obligations.
- To keep our systems secure and functioning.
We do not sell or rent personal information about our website visitors, app users, clients or the people who write to our customer service bots. The only data we license to others is the work of language project contributors who have agreed to this, in the anonymised form described in section 4.
7. Who else sees it
- Our hosting and form providers, which transmit and store the message you send.
- The app services named in section 3: Google (Firebase, AdMob, YouTube and Google Play), RevenueCat and Telegram. Each processes information under its own privacy policy.
- Cloudflare, which hosts our project app and customer service bots; Meta (WhatsApp), where an organisation's bot runs on WhatsApp; and the telephone provider (such as Twilio or Africa's Talking) that connects calls to an organisation's phone line.
- Organisations that license our language datasets, which receive contributions in the anonymised form described in section 4.
- Professional advisers such as accountants, where required.
- Public authorities, where Nigerian law requires disclosure.
Where a provider processes information on our behalf, they act only on our instructions. Some of these providers store information on servers outside Nigeria.
8. Client data
When we build or maintain a system for a client, including a customer service bot, we may have access to data belonging to that client and to their customers. In that situation the client is the data controller and we act as a data processor: we handle the data only as instructed, under a written agreement, and we do not use it for any purpose of our own.
9. How long we keep it
Enquiries that do not become projects are deleted within twelve months. Records relating to completed work are kept for as long as Nigerian tax and company law requires, and then deleted. App accounts and their progress are kept until you delete your account. Customer service bot conversations are deleted after twelve months. Language project contributions are kept for as long as the datasets are offered, unless the contributor asks us to delete them; payment records are kept as the law requires.
10. Your rights
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 you may ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or object to a particular use. You may also ask us to limit how we use it, to send it to you or another organisation in a common format, and you may withdraw your consent at any time (this does not affect what we did before). Write to info@guwit.com and we will respond within 30 days. How to ask for deletion is explained on our data deletion page.
If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC). People in the Republic of Benin may also contact the Autorité de Protection des Données à caractère Personnel (APDP).
11. Security
Access to enquiry and project records is restricted to staff who need it, and our sites and apps communicate over encrypted connections. Language project accounts must be approved by an administrator, recordings that are rejected are deleted, and the keys our systems use are stored with our hosting provider rather than in our code. No system is perfectly secure, but we do not store payment card details at any point.
12. Children
This website is intended for adults. Our language apps are made for a general audience and are not directed at children under 13. Our language data projects are only for adults aged 18 or over, and our customer service bots are not intended for children. If you believe a child has created an account or given us personal information, write to us and we will delete it.
13. Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. Important changes that affect language project contributors will also be announced in the project app.
